New Music Video: The Weeknd - 'M A N I A'

Posted On: November 23, 2016

After releasing a teaser for the video, The Weeknd liberates the whole short film project 'M A N I A.' The video is a compilation of several songs off The Weeknd's anticipated album, "Starboy."

M A N I A opens up with a charming black panther and white backdrop. The Weeknd is driving a fast car, reflecting on going from homelessness to the Forbes list and moves like a panther in the streets. Abél walks out from his whip's suicide doors and the scene switches to a club with disco lights glaring, and a melanin beauty dancing. The Weeknd has an intimate moment with her and goes to the bathroom. With danger behind him, The Weeknd's love interest in the video has his back and protects her king like a queen on a chess board, unleashing her own black panther from within.

The hues in the club scene turn to an impassioned red and The Weeknd dances, sings and enjoys himself with his love interest. M A N I A is directed by Grant Singer and gives listeners a sneak peak of The Weeknd's latest project, Starboy. The 18 tracked LP has features from Kendrick Lamar, Future, Lana Del Rey and Daft Punk. Starboy is slated for release on Friday, Nov. 25th.

Until then, check out Abél's visual piece of it.

Angela Bassett to Star in Upcoming Marvel's "Black Panther" Movie

Posted On: November 22, 2016

Gearing up for production in 2017, the producers and directors of the upcoming "Black Panther" movie recruited and cast Angela Bassett for the film. Bassett will be playing T’Challa's (Black Panther) mother, Queen Ramonda.

Black Panther has already made a social change impact, with T'Challa being the main character of the movie as a superhero. Breaking barriers in Hollywood and movie production. Especially with the storyline of Black Panther featuring T'Challa, an African prince who takes over the throne in the land of Wakanda.

Back in May of 2015, Black Panther made an appearance in the movie "Captain America: Civil War." There has not been many Black superheroes written and featured as the main character in movies from the past, so this new Black Panther film is embarking on opening the doors for that.

T'Challa will be played by Chadwick Boseman, with Hollywood heavyweight Forest Whitaker, actor Michael B. Jordan, actress Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira and more. Creed's visionary, Ryan Coogler is the eye behind the camera and the director of the movie.

Coogler, along with Joe Robert Cole is penning the script and will be produced by Marvel Studios' president, Kevin Feige.

This will be Angela Bassett's second superhero movie she is starring in, she played in DC’s “Green Latern” film with Ryan Reynolds. Her most recent role was in the movie "London Has Fallen," where she played a Secret Service Director named, Lynne Jacobs.

Bassett, who is also a heavyweight in Hollywood starred in a list of classic movies such as: "How Stella Got Her Groove Back," "Waiting To Exhale," her monumental roles as Tina Turner in "What's Love Gotta To Do With It," Dr. Betty Shabazz in "Malcom X," and portrayed Coretta Scott King in "Betty and Coretta." Other classics like "Akeelah and the Bee," "Boyz In The Hood;" comedy movies like "Meet The Browns," TV series "American Horror Story," the horror film with Eddie Murphy "Vampire In Brooklyn," the TV movie "The Jacksons: An American Dream;" and so much more.

With Angela Bassett gracing the Black Panther movie, it will be a legendary one. The film is scheduled to make its debut in the Winter of 2018.

New Book Release: DJ Khaled - 'The Keys'

Posted On: November 22, 2016

Starting off as a DJ and building an empire from it, DJ Khaled can now add authorship to his resume with the release of his anticipated book, "The Keys."

Khaled managed to discover the key to open the door of his dreams and also, other keys to close certain doors, and open other doors leading to dimensions; and portals of success. And now that he has those keys, Khaled is sharing it with the masses to help them discover their own keys to life.

DJ Khaled highlights his major keys in the book. He shares testimonies and lessons he learned through experiences and mentors.

Khaled goes into details about "they" by giving examples and experiences he endured from "they." He elaborates about remembering the people who counted him out, although God already deposited what could not be counted out into DJ Khaled. He also expresses, the importance of keeping your circle small as you grow and expand in your businesses. Khaled talks about the pressures of success and how one has to have tough skin to handle it. He also talks about the darkside of power, and how it corrupts certain people. It causes them to change, not for the better but worst. He explains it as a form of evolution, as you start to manifest and transpire into your visions, goals, dreams and etc.; you will grow, change and evolve. And with newfound power, it can go either way. It can bring out the good or worst in people. On some Pinky and The Brain ish of trying to take over the world. Basically, when you have the world in the palm of your hands, will you enhance it or destroy it?..

There's several keys in this book to learn from and even take notes. Reading is fundamental and nourishment for the mind, so check out Khaled's new book, The Keys. And you never know how it can bless you, provide information and enhance your knowledge. So, get to reading!

Gucci Mane Proposes To His Girlfriend, Keyshia Ka'oir During Atlanta Hawks Basketball Game

Posted On: November 22, 2016

Brrrrr... Winter is here!

During a live taping of the NBA's Atlanta Hawks basketball game, Gucci Mane surprised his longtime girlfriend, Keyshia Ka'oir by giving her a big piece of his heart. 25 carats that is, honoring his love to her.

Keyshia was Gucci Mane's rock when he was locked up. She was also, his inspiration and helped Gucci change his eating habits while he was in the pen. Keyshia Ka'oir motivated Gucci to eat healthier and exercise, and Gucci came out with a brick-squad of six pack and muscled his way back to doing what he does best.

Ever since Gucci Mane came home, he's just a different man, more polished, glistened; and just an extra sparkle to his shine. And love will do that to an individual, bring out and dignify the best in them. You know you got a gem, when that person inspire and motivate you to evolve into a better version of yourself.

Congrats to Gucci Mane and Keyshia Ka'oir, God bless their union.

New Music Video: Twista feat. Jeremih - 'Next To You'

Posted On: November 22, 2016

As a multi-task artist who generates the heat for the streets and keeps it smooth like a low-rider, Twista liberated the visuals for his Jeremih assisted cut, 'Next To You.'

Twista's new track samples the soul touching classic Rose Royce song, 'I Wanna Get Next To You.' The video is inspired by the classic Ice Cube and Chris Tucker movie, 'Friday.' The visuals adapts the porch scene from the film and the vintage Nia Long sexy jog scene.

Twista gets his mac on during a date with a Southern belle and Jeremih maintains the serene, feel good vibes with the hook.

Next To You is the right kind of song to get close to that one and maybe twista a shorty out to.

Hit that play button and check it out.

Chicago Natives' Chance The Rapper and Twista Release Statements Sending Prayers & Light to Kanye West

Posted On: November 22, 2016

Stemming from Kanye West's recent hospitalization, Chicago natives' and fellow musicians Chance The Rapper and Twista released statements about the matter in offering prayers to Ye.

During a session on BBC Radio, Chance The Rapper extended prayers, love and light to Kanye.

"I want to extend a very special prayer to my big brother, Kanye West. I know there’s a lot of weird folks out there, but you already know that I’m a hundred grand. I want to just extend this prayer and this love from all the way in Britain. We might come home early to see this man. Happy Thanksgiving."

Twista on the other hand, penned a letter talking about the music industry, the burdens of it and the pressures of success. He goes into details about the weight of being the main provider for your family, people being dependent on you for your creativity, art, finances; and etc.

Twista elaborates about basically functioning as a robot when it comes to the music industry. And that despite being a human who feels, who endures trials and tribulations, who struggles with certain things, has issues and problems like everybody else; and is a human being, you have to become desensitized, have no type of sensitivity to those things nor display them. You are expected to put on a smile like everything is good, although your heart is crying inside.

As expressed in Twista's own words below.

----- "I woke up this morning and i felt the need to prayer for those who might not have a voice to pray. The music business is a very stressful business to be in, i been doing this for a very long time and believe me when i say it takes a very strong minded person to go thru the daily shit that you have to go thru. “the smile of a clown” a clown gets paid to make other people happy, even if that clown might be going through a mental break down, that clown can’t let the public see him cry or else he might loose the only job that helps him take care of his family.

the music business is all about profit and elevation, the more hotter you are the more money you make, the longer your career lasts. the only catch to that is no one stays hot forever, no one can be new over and over again, so now you have the pressure from your fans, record label, friends, family, bill collectors, and the media to keep making hot music and never get old. take a min and think about that, can you imagine the pressure and responsibility a person gotta have not only to be successful but also to stay successful too?""

In the letter, Twista extended prayers to Kanye as well. Advises the public to do the same and how helping one another reveals character in a person. He expressed, hope for Kanye and for his prayer to assist Ye in finding the one thing that his fame and money can not buy. And that is peace.

"So today I pray for my man Kanye, and i ask everyone to do the same too, wanting help doesn’t show weakness, it actually shows character and it lets people know you too are you human and you too have feelings too. when the provider needs help, who can the provider turn too? When you have sooo many people that depend on you everyday, who can you turn to just to vent out to or just breath too without feeling weak to?

No one is perfect when it comes down to living life in general, so this morning i pray my homie. I pray that Kanye finds that one thing that money and fame can’t buy. #APeaceofMind Chicago Loves you bro."

Phife Dawg's Contribution to Music and His Legacy Honored With New Street Name

Posted On: November 22, 2016

"You on point Phife? All the time Tip."

That was a line from A Tribe Called Quest's classic and monumental song, 'Check The Rhime.' And even in his departure, Phife is still on point.

Malik Taylor, also known in the music world as "Phife Dawg" was tributed and honored for the contributions he made in music. Over the weekend, New York City paid tribute to Phife's legacy by naming a street after him. Linden Blvd. and 192nd St. in Queens, NY was polished into "Malik 'Phife Dawg' Taylor" Way and added an extra shine to the street. Linden Blvd is mentioned in the track, Check The Rhime.

Of course, members from A Tribe Called Quest was in attendance during the procession, as well as other musicians from the Hip Hop community, city officials, fans; and etc.

Q-Tip gave a speech, reflecting on his homie and the music they created together. Stating,

"This is no coincidence."

And how there was and is a deeper meaning for who and what A Tribe Called Quest does.

"This is divine order. So I want everybody to remember this album we put out has nothing to do with us, fame and notoriety. It’s for reason and purpose."

Q-Tip reminded the audience, that they too have purpose in them.

"That same reason and purpose is instilled and embedded in every one of you."

Kanye West Hospitalized After Cancelling Saint Pablo Tour Due to Sleep Deprivation and Exhaustion

Posted On: November 22, 2016

Upon cancelling the rest of his Saint Pablo Tour, Kanye West was transported to the hospital for evaluation. It was reported that Kanye needed to be evaluated for sleep deprivation and exhaustion. It's unsure if this was the reason Ye cancelled the remainder of his tour. As reported by TMZ, Yeezy was transported to UCLA Medical Center, where he also undergone a psychiatric evaluation. Due to his welfare and safety. Police officers responded to a call at Ye's home, which he was not there at the time and paramedics were dispatched as well, and ended up transporting Ye to the hospital.

Despite what the public might think about Kanye West following his rants over the weekend, he is not crazy. I've worked in a psychiatric hospital and I know how cray cray (crazy) looks like and Ye is not it. Often times, when an individual thinks differently, moves differently, are highly intelligent, highly creatives and have no fear of voicing themselves, those individuals are sometimes perceived as being crazy. Mainly because they are not part of society's norms. They are fearless when it comes to being an individual and being themselves, in a world that is constantly telling or marketing for you to be somebody else.

Ranting also, does not make an individual crazy. Ranting is a form of expression. As I said, we all been there, nobody is excluded. None of us are perfect, although some us strive for perfection. Usually, I don't use the word "rant" or "ranting" when it comes to some of the things Yeezy speaks because there are truths to them. If it's described as a rant, the message is not communicated or conveyed. When you look at the infamous Sway interview of Kanye West, Ye has difficulties with expressing himself due to his frustration. He knows what he wants to say but it does not always come out right.

Admist the controversial weekend Kanye West had, no matter what angles its looked at, it was unprofessional. Kanye's fans paid to see a show and see him perform, he should of delivered. It's one thing to have a five minute interval and recap about the elections, and even express your views and opinions just to move the audience a little; and prep them for a great show. It's another thing to go off about issues with people that you have a personal and business relationship with. Then walk off stage and not perform. Jay Z and Beyonce are not acquaintances of Ye, he actually has a personal and business relationship with them. If he is feeling some type of way and has some issues with them, he should of personally address it to them out of respect and not the audience at his Saint Pablo Tour. At the end of the day, the audience does not really care, they came to see a show. Also, Ye was venting about something he heard, a rumor and again, out of respect due to the personal and business relationship he has with Bey and HOV, fact check it and speak to them personally about it.

And why would Jay Z send the goons to Kanye over an award, as stated by Ye below:

"Jay Z, call me, you still ain’t called me. Jay Z, I know you got killers. Please don’t send them at my head. Just call me. Talk to me like a man."

Things that'll make you raise an eyebrow and even look at somebody sideways.

Why would Jay Z call Kanye when Ye is the one having an issue with HOV. Shouldn't Kanye be the one to do the calling? Now, for calling out a man's wife, hmmm, you can understand why a man would push somebody's wig back because hoes come a dime of dozen but a wife is one of a kind.

Yeezy expressing issues he is having with Jay Z and Beyonce, and other people in the industry, was unprofessional. If he had a beef track about them and it was part of the show, that's understandable but that's not the case here. It was the wrong place, the wrong time, the wrong venue, the wrong platform and etc. You can understand why fans threw objects and shouted obscenities, Ye's own frustration transpired into the venue and caused his own fans to become frustrated with him. The audience fed off whatever energy Kanye was vibing to. They came to see a show, they came to see Ye perform not hear his personal business or issues he is having with people he is suppose to be friends with.

Hopefully, Kanye West can learn from all of this, move forward by applying whatever lessons he learned. Speedy recovery to him and all the best.
