Ty Dolla $ign Goes on a "Campaign" Trail for His New Album

Posted On: September 24, 2016

Despite the fact that Ty Dolla $ign is not a candidate for presidency, it did not stop him from going on his own "Campaign" run for his new album.

In the 16 tracked LP, Ty Dolla lyrically lays his political plans over a set of beats and instrumentals. He covers topics about Black Lives Matter, unity and aspects of real life issues. The West Coast Hip Hop artist crunks it up with Future on the album title track and tries to find out where the party at with Migos on the song, '??? (Where).' Travis Scott gets on'3 Wayz' but not with Verizon nor AT&T. Ty Dolla $ign brings the flavor of Kool-Aid in 'Juice' and pimps it out on 'Zaddy.'

The album also has features from Trey Songz, Wiz Khalifa, Meek Mill and Big TC

Netflix Buys Rights to Young Barack Obama Movie, "Barry" After Premiering at The Toronto Film Festival

Posted On: September 22, 2016

Another biographical movie has been in the works about President Barack Obama.

Back in August, "Southside With You" was released, depicting the president's first date and love interest with First Lady, Michelle Obama prior to his presidency. A month after Southside With You made its debut at the Sundance Film Festival, "Barry" surfaced and went into production.

Barry is a biographical film as well, that details a younger Barack Obama before Michelle.

The movie is set in 1981 during President Barack Obama's college years, a critical time in his life. Young Obama is faced with identity, culture and race, in trying to discover himself. At the time, Obama migrated from New York as a transfer student to Columbia University. Barry portrays Barack trying keep his head in the books, adjusting to college and its lifestyle, his relationship with Mary Jane (cannabis); and how it all contributed to the man he has become.

Barry was directed by Vikram Gandhi, in a joint production venture between Cinetic Media and Black Bear Pictures. The producers involved in the project are: Dana O’Keefe for Cinetic and Ben Stillman, along with Teddy Schwarzman for Black Bear. The film made its first appearance premiering in at the Toronto International Film Festival, during its Special Presentations section. It somehow sparked a flame and became a hot commodity that several distributors wanted to buy. Deals were presented at the table but Netflix shut down any potential buyers in a bid for $4.5 million dollars.

Deadline Hollywood first reported the Netflix deal, which the streaming service won the bid for and Netflix obtained worldwide rights to Barry. As of now, its not known when Netflix will release Barry. The film is an impressive one and scored a perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes from its Toronto film festival premier.

Spike Lee to Spearhead "She's Gotta Have It'" Remake Series Project for Netflix

Posted On: September 22, 2016

Movie producer, director, activist and just a man with vision, Spike Lee is set to go behind the camera and remake his 1986 classic movie, "She's Gotta Have It." Most of Lee's produced and directed movie at times generates controversy because he takes it a step further with his vision and creates films that are thought provoking, raises awareness about racism and its affects from social class, financial equality; and so on.

Controversy can go both ways (good or bad), it will either further sales or decrease it. With some of Spike Lee's movies, controversy propelled them into new territories.

Stemming from a deal with streaming service Netflix, Spike Lee will direct 10 episodes for the remake of She's Gotta Have It and will work as a co-producer with his wife, author and film director, Tonya Lewis. The original version of the film was shot in black and white, with a tight budget of less than $200,000. In spite of that, the movie received rave reviews and accumulated over $7 million at the box office. Proving no matter the odds, believe in yourself and visions!

She's Gotta Have It had its fair share of controversy from scholars and feminist due to certain scenes in the movie, but managed to soar above it. Spike Lee will create the story-line, narrative plots, settings and etc. to develop the scripts for the series.

Lee reflected, on the obstacles he faced and overcoming them during his filming of the 1986 She's Gotta Have It. And despite the struggle, the movie turned out to be a blessing.

"She’s Gotta Have It has a very special place in my heart," Spike revealed.

"We shot this film in 12 days (2 six day weeks) way back in the back back of the hot summer of 1985 for a mere total of $175,000. Funds that we begged, borrowed and whatnot to get that money. This is the 1st official Spike Lee feature film joint and everything that we have been blessed with in this tough business of film all have been due to She's Gotta Have It."

He also, expressed his excitement about the upcoming project.

"We are hyped that Netflix is onboard with this vision as Nola Darling, Mars Blackmon, Jamie Overstreet and Greer Childs do da damn thang now, today in da Republic of Brooklyn, New York."

Until then, Spike Lee's 2015 movie, "Chiraq" can be purchased and streamed on Amazon.

It's been a couple of days since Mac Miller released his anticipated album, "The Divine Feminine." Since then, the album has been getting some rave reviews, with some dubbing it as his best project so far. During an interview with Power 106, Mac Miller expressed, despite the instrumentals and beats on the album, his vocals are the cardinal tools for him.

"My voice is my main instrument, so I gotta know how to use that in every way possible."

The Divine Feminine is composed of 10 tracks with features from: Kendrick Lamar, Ceelo Green, Ty Dolla $ign, Anderson .Paak, Ariana Grande, Bilal and Njomza. 'Congratulations' is the starting point of the album, a piano themed produced tune. Following one of the releases off the project, 'Dang!' with Anderson .Paak's soulful and feel good vibes. The next track called 'Stay' has Mac Miller mesmerized by the presence of a woman, while he takes a swim in 'Skin' and goes in deep to find the river of love in a woman.

Mac Miller twists up 'Cinderella,' elevating her third eye in his own version of the classic tale. In 'Planet God Damn,' Mac Miller maintains the soulful proposition of the album. And... oh, there's more but you have to stream and purchase the album below via Apple Music.

Mario came up with the creative concept for the music video and gave the song a visual. With the vision of Rudy behind the camera, the clip opens up with a typed quote from Manly P. Hall off his book, "The Secret Teachings of All Ages."

In the semi movie like directed video, Mario is detained by authorities and gets thrown into a holding place. He starts looking around, walks up the stairs and encounters other prisoners like himself. Taking on the leadership role, Mario motivates the inmates to fight back against their oppressors and ascend to their nobility.

New Music Video: Dave East - 'Keisha'

Posted On: September 20, 2016

Dave East got a thing for those Keishas, you know those chocolate, honey buttered and pecan shorties, curves that rides all night and with an attitude to match her personality.

In his new music video, Dave East brings a story to life through the power of the pen about a pretty young thang named 'Keisha.' The track is off his upcoming project "Kairi Channel."

Premiered by Mass Appeal, the visuals open up with Dave East on 125st. in Harlem, New York macking to a bronze shorty with glistening skin. She's in her Harlem element with thick dookie braids, slicked back, accessorized with gold bamboo heart shaped earrings and her sheer lip gloss is poppin'. Keisha is walking by, looks back and catches Dave East's attention. From there, the lyricist continues with his storytelling abilities and constructs his words as paint on a canvas.

Ten minutes into the convo, Keisha breaks the TMI (too much information) law which should of rung a bell for Dave East but at time, he was thinking with a different head and wanted to get his hair wet. So, the story proceeds of Keisha spilling too much about herself that would make one raise an eyebrow and leaving nothing to the imagination, or mysterious enough to stimulate Dave East. After putting Keisha through a series of test, like sending one of his homies to holla at her and Keisha shutting dude down, Dave East advances on wanting to hook up with Keisha.

During their first meeting, Keisha invites Dave to a telly (hotel) with nothing on but bra and panties, Dave East of course, still thinking about getting his stroke on and a wetback, can't see past Keisha's seductive entrapment. The story takes a twist after a night of passionless sex, Dave East gets hoodwinked and finds out that Keisha is a messy chick with dirty tactics, who scammed him.

The visuals of the video comes to a close of Dave East sitting on park bench, telling his homies about the lesson he learned as a teaching instrument for them. East talks of a parable about a pretty young thang named Keisha, who told him more than he needed to know, but left him with no information to track her down to get his stolen goods, from a chick who was too quick to give up her goods.

He can't believe he got robbed and was caught slippin'. Well, Dave did slip and fell into the wrong hole. An empty hole who robbed him but didn't take his worth. Keisha might have left with some cash and jewelry but she could not get into the vault, which is the heart of a person to gain something priceless and that is love.

Dave East's Kairi Channel mixtape is scheduled for release on September 30th, with features from Fabolous, 2 Chainz, Beanie Sigel and more. Until then, check out his new music video below.

New Mixtape & Quick Review: Fabolous - 'Summertime Shootout 2: The Level Up'

Posted On: September 05, 2016

Following up on his "Summertime Shootout" project from last year, Fabolous rebounds and scores with the "Summertime Shootout 2: The Level Up" mixtape.

It's Young OG, the motivator!

The tape consist of 14 tracks with features from Rihanna, Wale, Dave East, Trey Songz, DJ Drama, Lil’ Uzi Vert and more. Produced by araabMUZIK, Mark Henry, !LLMIND and more.

Kid Loso opens up the mixtape with a skit title 'Wake Up,' where Fab is having a conversation with a shorty, who's expressing how he has changed and it's time to level up. The Young OG launches like a rocket in 'To The Sky' featuring Shake, who brings the R&B hook. What I admire most about Fabolus is, he never disappoints when it comes to wordplay, the literary aspects of them and the application of wordplay in poetry and writing. As well as, the sequence of metaphors and similes. He has a mean pen game, although Fab's flow is nice.

In the next track, Fabolous keeps his benjamins in style in 'Goyard Bag' and Lil’ Uzi Vert stacks it up with 16 bars. Wale comes through in 'Faith In Me,' slows it down a little over some tranquil and monotonous instrumentals. Rihanna and Trey Songz sang a ballad each on the song 'Sex With Me' and make their lyrics dance between the sheets. Fabolous gets his flex on as the track switches it up and samples the Caribbean classic Mad Cobra joint, 'Flex.' Kid Loso has another phone conversation, sounds more like a booty call and goes into '4AM Flex' featuring Tory Lanez.

There's more but you have to hit the play button and plug to the mixtape below. And oh, Fabolous drops some gems in this mixtape but you just have to figure out which ones they are and catch them yourself. Fab does his thing as Hip Hop philosopher like usual and still remains top 5 of all time.

Check it out below.

Notable Wordplay:

1. "It ain't about the sprint/ it's about the marathon."

Basically, enjoy the journey for that is where the destination is. And it's not how fast you run, but the purpose of the race.

2. "I chase the money like Joe Budden do Drake fans."

Lol, funny but Fabolous makes his point about being on his paper chase.

3. "Look, I'm tryna grab a Dame and Dash/ get back on the Freeway./ Shawty went to Memphis/ brought it back up to BK./ Hard knock life/ Bentley back to the PJs."

Fabolous cleverly utilized members of the classic Roc A Fella crew and Jay Z's 'Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem)' which appeared on the classic 1998 "(Volume 2) Hard Knock Life" album and Jigga's hometown, to tell a story constructed in wordplay format.

4. "Shinin' like a diamond/ I guess I been under pressure lately."

The pressures of life are designed to mold and shape you, it helps build character and helps you discover the light at the end of the tunnel, is yourself in order to shine. It's a transformation process, like the coal turning into a diamond, the pressure is necessary because it is what births the diamond.

"Real ones might fall back but they don't fall off."

Hmmm, it's the bounce in the real ones and each time, they level up.

New Freestyle: Nicki Minaj - 'The Pinkprint'

Posted On: September 05, 2016

Reloaded, Nicki Minaj makes her return on the mic and brings the heat, letting off some shots. The thing is, who Nicki getting at? Flowing over Young Ma's 'Ooouuu,' the Young Money empress tips her crown as a reminder of why she's the Queen of Hip Hop.

In the new freestyle called, 'The Pinkprint,' Nicki delivers her bars with a slew of wordplay and punchlines. The femcee laughs, purrs a couple of time on the track and brings the Caribbean vibes with a Shabba Ranks riddim/dancehall mix in the end.

Notable Wordplay

"Shorty trying to give me brains like telepathy."

Such an interesting and dope wordplay. We all know brains in Hip Hop terminology is fellatio, the act of getting sexually stimulated orally, which also stimulates the mind and that's why it's called brains. In this wordplay, Nicki describes it as something more deeper (the irony) and how the brains she's receiving is a thought transference, the act of mind reading (telepathy).
