Following the announcement of Kevin Durant's departure from the Oklahoma City Thunder and signing with the Golden State Warriors, KD's Southern Cuisine based in OKC is changing its name.
Due to the heckling of unhappy fans who are disappointed about Durant's career move, the restaurant had no choice but to change its name. This past Sunday (July 24th), Southern Cuisine shut its doors to prevent angry fans from soliciting their customers with negative reviews in the restaurant's Yelp listing. Referencing several sports news publications, Southern Cuisine confirmed the name change on Monday (July 25th).
A major stake of Southern Cuisine is owned by Hal Smith Restaurants and in their released statement, the company expressed honor towards their partnership with Kevin Durant and wished him the best in his new endeavor.
"It has been an honor -- and a lot of fun -- to partner with Kevin at KD's these last few years," Hal Smith disclosed.
"We wish him the very best as he takes a new direction in his career."
Its unsure what the new name of the restaurant will be, the name change takes effect in August. Revision of Southern Cuisine will also be implemented, although a majority of the menu will remain, including their famous fried chicken.
As far as Kevin Durant's stake in the restaurant, well that remains unknown for now if he still owns it or sold his stake to the highest bidder.
